16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

This year also CHSJ’s Parichiti team organized a 16 days campaign against Gender-Based Violence in West Bengal. The campaign was a part of the annual global campaign that kicks off on 25 November until 10 December. Every year, since its inception, Parichiti has been organizing this campaign in West Bengal and has reached almost one lakh community members. Though the COVID 19 pandemic has created obstacles to the daily activities of Parichiti in the fields of gender justice and empowering women against gender-based violence, the 16 Days Campaign was organized uninterruptedly. Parichiti organized interactive sessions; performed street plays to promote gender equality; played games on role reversal, breaking the gender cage with communities from different socio-economic backgrounds during the campaign.

The campaign covered fourteen locations involving poor and marginalized communities of Kolkota and South 24 Pargana districts covered two blocks, one municipal corporation, one municipality, and three Gram Panchayats. CHSJ believes in making women visible in spite of the solid confrontation of patriarchal barricades.

More than 1500 women and girls including 800 domestic workers directly participated in the campaign 2021, while almost 6000 people were reached indirectly. Through participatory activities, Parichiti creates a strong awareness campaign against gender-based violence.
