Sangram is an alumnus of Visva-Bharati University, West Bengal, and NSOU. He is specialised in theories of Gender and Women Studies and regularly publishes academic content. Sangram manages administrative and financial documents of CHSJ in Kolkata.
Sourav has a bachelor’s degree in commerce with five years of experience working on equal rights and promoting gender equality by mobilising men against violence against women. He is a mentor, trainer, and field mobiliser at Parichiti. He likes to connect with people and motivate them towards gender equality. He has an insatiable interest in promoting the rights of marginalised people through videography and photography.
Sreerupa works as a field supervisor and has experience of more than ten years in the development sector. She has experience working with women and children. She also provides counselling and training for underprivileged people, especially children and women. Her current works include documentation, monitoring, and designing projects for women and children.
Shubhra is working for the uplift the marginal section of the society for more than a decade. She was a member of an executive team to support the HIV-positive citizens of West Bengal. She has been closely working with HIV-positive people and helping them to claim their rights. Shubhra manages the crisis center of gender-based violence of CHSJ, which provides moral and legal support to the women survivors of gender-based violence.
Drawing on 35 years of experience in the field related to gender, men, and masculinities, Satish Singh provides specialist advice and conceptual underpinning in ensuring the core goals of the organisation as well as provides thematic inputs in the area of men and masculinities. He guides the team on finance and administration. He is among the founding members of various national and global networks on the works with men for gender equality like Forum to Engage Men (FEM), Men’s Action for Stopping Violence Against Women (MASVAW), South Asian Network to Address Masculinities (SANAM) and MenEngage Global Alliance. He has been instrumental in setting up the work with men in various states of India. Over the past 35 years, he has imparted training on gender sensitization, sexuality, violence against women, sexual and gender-based violence, masculinity, male involvement in women’s empowerment, Father Care, Organisational Development (OD), etc.
Dr Bijayalaxmi Nanda is an academician and a gender specialist. She has written extensively on gender issues. She has assisted various State Governments in drafting policy related to women and the girl child. As a policy analyst, she has extensively analysed the public policies relating to family planning, human trafficking, Conditional Cash Transfers for the girl child, housing for women, etc. Also, she has provided technical assistance on gender issues to UNFPA, UNDP, WHO and UNIFEM, apart from a score of Non-Government Organizations in India. She has a PhD from Jawaharlal University.
Basavi Kiro, Founder, Torang Trust, Ex-Member, Jharkhand State Commission for Women, General Secretary, Hodopathy Ethno Medicine Doctor’s Association of India (HEDAN), and Coordinator, Indigenous Women India Network(I WIN) Basavi Kiro is a journalist turned social activist and writer. She is founder of Torang Trust, an organization dedicated to preserving and revitalizing tribal medicine and culture while promoting gender equity and human rights. She is a staunch advocate of tribal agenda and cultural rights and a powerful representative for Jharkhand’s tribal women. She has a PhD in Political Science from Ranchi University.
Enakshi Ganguly is a human rights activist and has been a spokesperson and advocate for the poor and the marginalised for over three and a half decades. She is a writer, researcher writing on a range of issues. Beginning with her career from Indian Social Institute in 1985, she has been the Deputy Director om Multiple Action Research Group (MARG). After brief stints in Mobile Creches and Population Council, she Co-Founded HAQ: Centre for Child Rights in 1998. Having transitioned from HAQ as full-time Co-Director, she remains an advisor and is now a freelance Consultant. She is the President of Society for Rural, Urban Tribal Initiatives (SRUTI) and on the board of The Gender Centre of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy for Administration (LBSNAA) and National Centre for Advocacy Studies (NCAS).
Nasiruddin Haidar Khan is well known Journalist, Researcher, and Grassroot Communicator with special interest on Digital Media, Gender Justice, Masculinity, Social Justice, and Design. He has earlier worked with the Hindustan as Resident Editor of Delhi and Agra and Digital Editor/ Head of livelindustan.org He was also awarded the Fellowship Leadership Development (FLD) by the MacArthur Foundation.
Damodar is an Office Assistant who looks after the logistics of CHSJ and has been working with CHSJ since April 2022. He likes to learn about finance and administration and is slowly and steadily improving his skills in finance.
Kakuli Deb is an alumnus of the Visva-Bharati University, West Bengal, and a development professional with more than twenty years of experience. She has been leading the field unit of CHSJ at Kolkata (also known as Parichiti) and managing various programmes that include domestic workers’ rights, engaging men and boys to prevent gender-based violence, and working with adolescent girls for their better health, and respectful aging with elderly women.
Mahendra has extensive competencies in community-based advocacy, programme management, networking, and solidarity building among groups, and plans and oversees the unit’s work as a resource centre on gender and masculinities. He has more than twenty years of experience working with men for gender justice. He is leading the community-based unit of MITRA in the Bundelkhand area of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Mallika has experience working with the most marginalized sections of the society for more than twenty years and has been working with the Parichiti team as a Field Officer for the last ten years. She has expertise in documentation, monitoring, communication, and awareness creation.
Nibedita has experience in the development sector for more than fourteen years. In her overall professional career spanning 14 years, she has worked primarily in roles related to research, policy advocacy, and strategic partnership building in the field of gender, reproductive health, and climate change. She is an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University. She is a trained painter, artist, and published poet.
Priyanka Sarkar, field mobiliser as well as Assistant Centre in Charge of Dida (Elderly Women) Centre. She has five years of experience in the social sector including community mobilising, data collection, coordinating with community stakeholders, session planning, and imparting training on digital literacy to the vulnerable group of women.
Rima Pal, working as a Field Mobiliser since 2019 in Kolkota with CHSJ. Rima is active in community mobilising, data collection, and designing campaigns and events. Rima has expertise in training on different social issues related to the women and girls, such as child marriage, domestic violence, and working rights of domestic workers.
As a development practitioner, she has over twenty years of experience in grassroots work, training, research, networking, and advocacy. The main focus of her work is on women’s health and rights and governance. She holds a master’s in social work. She is the leader of CHSJ’s overall planning and strategy development.
Postgraduate in Social Work and has a decade of experience working in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender justice. Her strength has been in research and documentation. She has been part of various quantitative and qualitative evaluation processes of CHSJ. Currently, she is overseeing programmes on women’s health and rights across CHSJ’s field sites in Delhi, Bundelkhand, and Kolkata. Her role includes planning and program implementation, mentoring field processes, capturing women’s stories of change, etc. She is leading the community-based unit, Seher in Delhi NCR. She is also exploring her passion for photography as a medium to narrate women’s stories.
Baishakhi Karan is a youth leader, pursuing BA in Sociology and also working as a Field Mobiliser and Field Facilitator. She is an expert in designing training and meeting sessions and facilitating activities, community mobilising, and arranging events and campaigns. Her other skills include fundraising, team building, communication, photo documentation, and networking with stakeholders. She has a strong interest in theatre, art, and crafts, traveling, music, and gardening which helps her in connecting with people.
Ajay Kumar heads the financial management team in CHSJ with more than sixteen years of experience in accounting and finance in the development sector. He has been associated with CHSJ since 2010 and from then looking after finance and administrative works of CHSJ.
Dr. Abhijit Das is a public health physician with over thirty years of experience in reproductive health, gender, human rights, and health governance-related issues. He is a global pioneer in involving men for gender equality. He is a member of AGCA under the National Health Mission. He has authored many papers in academic and popular publications and is invited as a speaker on diverse platforms. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor, at the University of Washington, Seattle, the USA, and was a Global Convenor of COPASAH (Community of Practitioners in Accountability and Social Action in Health). He serves as Advisor to various research centres and policy-making bodies in India and across the world.
A trainer and communications expert with decades of grassroots experience as a community mobiliser, leads programme training processes, development of curriculums and resource material and mobilisation and campaigning.
Arun is an office assistant and looks after the logistics of CHSJ, and has been working with CHSJ since 2013. He likes to learn about finance and accounting and is slowly and steadily improving his skills in finance.
Areeba is a feminist development practitioner and is equipped with Master’s in Social Work from Jamia Millia Islamia. She comes with the experience of working on the SRHR issues. At CHSJ, she works closely with women and young adults in the urban settlements of Delhi. She is a mountain lover and runs to the hills the first chance she gets. And yes, she lives to smash patriarchy.
Deepak Balan leads the Fund Development and Strategic Communications for the Centre for Health and Social Justice. Before joining CHSJ Deepak has spent 12 years in Development sector working for organizations like Transport Foundation of India, Population Health Services India, NEG-FIRE and SOS Children Villages of India. His professional skills include raising resources including writing grants, researching foundations and corporations, developing strong donor relations for both annual fundraising and capital campaigns and implementing new fundraising strategies. He enjoys travelling, music and reading.
Dr E. Premdas Pinto is a Human Rights lawyer and public health pracademic, engaged in processes and social justice issues of the marginalized communities in India for the last 25 years. His praxis in the field of human rights, social justice, and public health includes engaged with the dam displaced tribals, Dalit women in Karnataka, and several social movements that directly and indirectly engage with the issue of wellbeing, dignity, and justice. His academic journey includes scholarship from eminent institutions – masters in social sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, bachelors and masters law studies in Karnataka followed by human rights diploma from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru and a doctorate on public health and law from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Currently, he is a Senior Fellow – Policy and Research at CHSJ, Delhi and anchors People’s Forum for Justice and Health as its Convener.
Anchita Ghatak has worked in the development sector for three decades on issues of poverty and rights especially women’s rights and gender equality. She founded Parichiti to work for the rights of women domestic workers. Through Kolkata Initiatives, she works to promote local philanthropy and establish the rights of deprived sections of society, especially the rights of elderly women.
Leila Caleb Varkey is an experienced public health researcher with over 25 years’ experience in programme implementation and operations research . Her areas of interest include Policy Analysis, Program Evaluation, Human Resources in Health, Capacity Building, and Civil Society coalition building. Leila has a Doctor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins focused on Maternal and Child Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Rimjhim Jain is a women’s rights activist and gender justice practitioner providing strategic leadership to the men and gender unit of CHSJ. She has experience in developing and leading gender-transformative campaigns and programmes in many states in the country. She has contributed to developing a knowledge resource centre on gender, masculinities and social justice issues for strengthening a community of men’s work practitioners. She has published on gender and related topics. Earlier, she was a media professional doing reporting in national television and print news outlets and then worked as a communications consultant in the development sector for influencing action on a wide variety of social issues. She has studied English literature, mass communications and women’s and gender studies.
Associated with Civil Society Organisations and media for more than two decades and actively involved in providing communication support in capacitating state level women’s groups and grassroots organizations in areas such as strategic planning and communication, networking and constructive engagement with different stakeholders including media. Over the last ten years his major area of focus has been to amplify the voice of communities most-at-risk and marginalized like people living with HIV, women in sex work, injecting drug users and urban poor through films, various social and behaviour change communication instruments and other digital platforms.
Tulsi is working with Centre for Health and Social Justice for more than 10 years and holds the degree of B.COM. She is working as Administrative Officer and is responsible for the supervision of the work and ensures the smooth functioning of the routine office work. She has now promoted to Finance Department and working as Account and Administrative Officer.
