- Healthy Second Innings – Elderly…
In Bengali culture, “Dida” means grandmother, and CHSJ recognizes the importance of providing care and support to elderly women, who are often overlooked and neglected. Caring for elderly women is one of the core areas of CHSJ’s work, and they have been actively engaged in this endeavor for the past four years in six locations in Kolkata.
The failure to understand the needs and provide appropriate care for elderly women can have a detrimental effect on their overall health and well-being. To address this, CHSJ’s Dida Centers have been established to focus on improving the quality of life for elderly women. These centers serve as spaces where they can find companionship, and support, and engage in various activities that promote their well-being.
The Dida Centers provide essential support to elderly women by offering food, dry ration, and medicine. Additionally, these centers organize recreational activities and health camps, providing opportunities for elderly women to socialize, participate in meaningful activities, and address other issues relevant to their lives.
More than 250 elderly women have become a part of this journey and have experienced positive changes in their lives after joining the Dida Centers. Through meetings and interactions, the elderly women have expressed their satisfaction with the companionship and friendships they have found at the centers. These relationships have fulfilled their need for social connection and have significantly impacted their overall well-being.
The Dida Centers have created a nurturing environment where elderly women feel valued, cared for, and have the opportunity to share their experiences and concerns. By focusing on their needs and providing a supportive community, CHSJ is making a meaningful difference in the lives of these elderly women, enhancing their quality of life during their later years.
